The National Museum of Art, o Museo Nacional de Arte in Mexico City is located in this amazing building! It was finished in 1911. It was constructed by the Italian Silvio Contri. It is built in a very classical european style, specifically italian and french. This building was originally called "Communications Palace" and hosted the Ministry of Communications and Transportation. It was meant to reflect prosperity and economical stability under Porfirio Diaz's presidency. If you are someone who likes Art History, this is the place to visit. You'll love it!

Two blue frogs/Dos ranitas azules

Today, I was able to go with my nephews to their swimming lesson. I was very glad to get the chance to share with their excitement of being able to put "all their face in the water!" as they pointed out proudly. This is one of the reasons I wish I could live close to my brother, to see the little things that are so big!

Traveling alone/Viajar sola

Traveling alone has some advantages. Like being able to wander around the airport stores to my hearts' content while waiting for my connecting flight. This time I found this very cool place at G. Bush International Airport: Clyde Drexler Sports Scene. It is very sharply decorated with all kinds of full size posters featuring Clyde -- of course, doing his cool acrobatic basketball moves. The only thing that's missing is him in his Blazers uniform. As I browsed away, I was missing my husband terribly, imagining how would this walk be with him. I could almost hear Mike's words as I choose to go a little further away from our gate, he wouldn't like it, but still would tag along reluctantly. I often try to "think for him", which he hates, so I won't try except to say that I'm almost sure that the one thing he'd say about this store is how come Clyde's time with the Portland Trail Blazers is not acknowledged here. I don't know, on the one side there's the Clyde Drexler player who had great success including an NBA Championship with the Trail Blazers. On the other hand there's Clyde Drexler from Texas in the GB International Airport promoting everything that's goood, big and Texan, so what do you think? Should this store include Clyde Drexler in his Blazers uniform, even if only a little picture?

Steve Nash

Basketball is a sport I really enjoy. There are some great athletes and heroes that have made this game and each game magical and amazing. Where amazing happens. It is very true, in my opinion. That's exactly what happened in the 5th game between Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. It was literally at the last second that Ron Artest scored a basket that gave them the win. I was so sad! I just love Steve Nash! He is one player that has made watching basketball amazing. I think he deserves a championship ring. I'm just affraid this might be his last chance. I am rooting for him, even though they beat the Blazers.

¡Me dio tanta tristeza!

Reach The Beach/Alcanzando la Playa

I am so impressed with my husband Mike who rode 104 miles from Hillsboro to Pacific City last Saturday! I don't think I could ever do that. I don't know, maybe next year?

Poverty/Pobreza

I have been meditating a lot on the issue of poverty and my students. I think I had awareness about what it means. This year in particular, I have been meditating and making connections with greater detail about what that really means. Most of all, how poverty affects learning in school. It's funny, but every time I think about this, I remember the one scene in the movie The Matrix with Keanu Reaves. When Neo goes to see the Oracle for the first time, he has to wait for a few minutes in a room with some kids. One of them is "bending" spoons with his mind. The boy tells Neo: "Do not try to bend the spoon, that is impossible, only realize the truth." Neo asks: "What is the truth?" The boy replies: "There is no spoon." I suspect that somehow what this scene shows  is that I have denied poverty in my students because I want to believe with all my heart that they are all as capeable as any other kid in the school. So I started reading a book called When Poverty's Children Write, By Bobbie A. Solley. So far I have been enriched by what I've read.

Loosing the Game/Perder un Partido

What does it mean to be someone's fan? A devoted and enthusiastic follower; an ardent admirer . Then why those who consider themselves Blazers fans are so critical and harsh? After last Sunday's hard lost, many of those calling to the team's radio station the next morning wanted to fire Rudy Fernandez. They said LaMarcus Aldrige had nothing more to give. There were some crude even rude comments about these two players's performances, mostly in the second game against the Phoenix Suns. I don't understand why the callers thought everything was lost after just one game.
I think it's important that as true Blazers' fans we learn to see them as a team, not only as individual players. Throughout the whole regular season they have shown time and time again that they want to win and that when one fails, everyone fails. I don't believe it's necessary for us to stress when a player makes mistakes. I am sure that those players are harder on themselves than anyone else can. I also think it's important to remember that what they have accomplished is a great thing; considering their circumstances -- difficulties and injury's relapse they still made it to the playoffs. Loosing one playoff game does not mean loosing the series. There's up to seven games they can play. After today, they only have to win three more. That's all. There's no need to panic. They lost a battle again, but they haven't lost the war yet.
